Creative Mail Art Collab: Artist Challenge Coin Exchange

On the 6 Degrees of Creativity workshop site, one of the workshops has been dedicated to mail art collaborations as a space where interested community members can exchange art and enjoy creative adventures with one another inspired by the spirit and intention of the community.

Our first creative challenge that started in March was to create a series of 5 Artist Challenge Coins (ACCs) with mixed media that included positive affirmations & messages about the power of creativity.

Here are some of the 50+ ACCs that arrived at 6 Degrees of Creativity HQ for the exchange this month:

Themes of creativity as a form of joy, play, discovery, courage, faith, and more filled these inspiring tokens, as well as messages of encouragement about creating art and honoring our unique creative voice and expression.

I was grateful to receive each ACC batch to take in and feel their creative power before sending them back into the world and to community members participating in this swap. I can’t wait for everyone to also feel their creative power- What wonderful, tangible reminders of creative support!

Many thanks to all the participants who contributed to this first workshop exchange.  A new mail art adventure will be posted soon to keep these good vibes going!

If you’re interested in joining us, signing up for 6 Degrees of Creativity’s 2014 online workshops is open until the end of July and available until the end of this year.

  1. Hi Gretchen:

You inspire me with your mission of finding ways to help make art making and art sharing a part of people’s daily lives. This is such an accessible format given how small they are. I also really appreciate the specialness that is inherent in small art. I wonder if your challenges are always small?

Are you currently also seeing clinical clients, and do you use these sorts of exercises with clients too? How do they respond? Are they sharing?

    Thanks for your good work,

    Amy

    • Hi Amy— Many thanks for your feedback here– glad to hear you also appreciate small art! I would say most mail art swaps I have organized or participated in has included miniature expression: postcards, artist trading cards, etc… ACCs definitely take small to a new kind of format, but I also enjoy working in this limited space to express something meaningful– it is also practical I find for shipping/postage through the mail (domestic or international) a little less expensive and easier to package, as well as manageable for participants to find the time to work on and complete what’s needed for the swap…. I like to sometimes create smaller scale art with clients I work with also as a form of mobile art that can be easily taken with the individual as an accessible, positive reminder. Having exchanges of art within the art therapy group environment can also be a positive experience of strength and support from others. Thanks again for your comment Amy!

  2. These are very fun and so shareable widely, very nice! p.s. whomever gets that little froggy one got something very special….made me smile immediately!
